World energy usage nearly doubled between 1975 and 2005, while China’s energy usage doubles every decade. Worldwide oil production has peaked and is now declining. Modern renewable energy technologies like wind, solar, geothermal, wave and tidal power together now produce less than 1% of the energy being used. Yet these renewable energy sources have the potential to provide far more energy than is currently available from all traditional sources.
