Nigeria: We Can’t Breathe
Nigerian rulers are indeed very special. When other leaders and countries are giving out palliatives to their citizens and bailouts to their production and service sectors to cushion the effects of the current pandemic, our rulers (not leaders) are here inventing more harsh policies to perpetually enslave and over-burden us. The government has just increased the pump price of fuel and electricity tariffs. I mean in the midst of this overwhelming struggle by the citizens caused by their poor economic performance and complicated by the Chinese virus crisis. Yes, things were really difficult here even before the pandemic.
What We Have Here Is A Failure To CommunicateThe results of this past election proved once again that the Democrats had a golden opportunity to capitalize on the failings of the Trump Presidency but, fell short of a nation wide mandate. A mandate to seize the gauntlet of the progressive movement that Senator Sanders through down a little over four years ago. The opportunities were there from the very beginning even before this pandemic struck.
Bridging The GapsBiden may have won the Presidency but, his cohorts in the DNC couldn’t close the gaps of the deep divisions that exist in our nation. As for the Trump’s Presidency only a deep seeded need to feed his ego by distortion and diversion that has penetrated into much of the nations consciousness has ignited the tempests of unrest all across America. The collateral damage of not only the past 4 years of the Trump Administration but previous ones and the policies coming out of Washington for the past 50 years have systematically eroded our society.
Anarcho-Populism, a New Ideology? We all know the Anonymous mask, a symbol of the new type of revolution (anarcho-populism), a symbol that we have seen in the streets of Cairo and elsewhere. The new ideology that has emerged is grounded in the anti-globalization movements that emerged in the 1990s but also in 2000. Movements that rejected the power of the media and promoted the idea of collectiveness through popular assemblies in each neighborhood. There is, however, a significant difference between the anti-globalization movements and the movements of the squares, such as those who have been resurrected in Greece, etc.

UBI and MLKI find it fascinating (in a social experiment sort of way) the fanatical, er, passionate reactions I received from my FB “friends” when I posted President-elect Joe Biden’s “politricks” about the stimulus checks. I deliberately posted the comment on January 15th (MLK’s Birthday). Why? MLK was a fierce advocate for Universal Basic Income (UBI) during his lifetime. In other words, we should be getting at least 2K per month during the pandemic instead of a proposed 2K for a single year. Intriguingly, other OECD countries are giving their citizens as high as 7K per month in UBI. As of December, Australian citizens have gotten 24K since their pandemic in accumulated UBI.
Inflection Point: Our Great American ChallengeDespite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing economic crisis, we find ourselves at a time of great opportunity. The open question is: who will we choose to become, as Americans?

Governmental BetrayalWhen seasons change there is always a certain anxiety in the air. Many people wonder what a new season will bring. The anticipation of positive change or a foreboding premonition of unsettling times ahead are the two distinct realities facing when seasons change.

Point Counter PointThe many perils of today have continually subjugated millions into a realm of reality far removed from their hopes and dreams. The onslaught of tremors from the recent mass shootings, the political unrest in many parts of the world, the continuing never ending global pandemic and the social unrest here in the United States all have exasperated the human conditions the world over. In the United States where there is so much bitterness between political parties where compromise is never in the equation the seeds of revolt are now being sowed.
On The Verge Of An Economic Stimulus? The sheer audacity of so many republicans in times of crisis proves once again the unwillingness of Congress to uphold the majority of the publics will. You could arguably say that today’s Congress is synonymous with a large group of Baboons of which I’d bet the baboons have allot more sympathy toward their kind than our Congress has toward the American people. Without a doubt for the past 35 years Congress’s only vested interest is a perpetual hold on power over the American public.
