Inflation – “I Don’t See No Inflation!”
Art Laffer, author of the Laffer Curve, observes that the Fed has increased the monetary base by almost $1 trillion since September 2008. Monetary base is comprised of currency in circulation, member bank reserves held at the Fed, and vault cash. This increase in the monetary base is the largest increase in fifty years, BY A FACTOR OF TEN.
I’m Sorry, I Think I May Have Caused the RecessionWe all buy in to the (originally at least) collective myth of a global recession. The media told us it was on the way this time last year. They told us it would be global, and profound, and deep and long and serious. They told us, on a 24/7 basis it would be bad and it would be inescapable. As a consequence, we all did what any sane, rational person would do when faced with news of an impending disaster, we took what steps we could to obviate the problem. Trouble is, these very sensible and logical steps could have landed us in heaps more trouble.
